Point Two Percent
Sculptural installation
Canadian ten dollar bill, paper, crayon, acrylic, white cedar; dimensions variable, 2017
This mixed media multiple was created on the occasion of Canada’s 150th year. These works are an unapologetic condemnation of the Canada 150 celebrations in light of Canadian governmental policy towards indigenous peoples. Arthur Manual’s book Unsettling Canada is the inspiration for this series which states that indigenous peoples only control 0.2% of Canadian territory. The ten dollar bill is the jumping off point to visually represent the disproportionate amount of land controlled by First Nations in relation to the size of indigenous populations.
