Treelines - Greece
Sculpture / Installation / Photography
Crocheted trees made from wool and recycled plastic bags, colour photographs, 2018.
The Treeline project started from a projects at Phoenix Projects in Athens, Greece. Small crocheted trees were placed in locations as stand-ins for the trees that would have grown in the area. The trees acted as a kind of proxy for me and my relationship to the land and changes depending on the location. The trees were meant to be whimsical, and a bit sad. The plastic trees also have another register—they remain alien looking, intentionally toxic or a little ghostly. This project was the catalist for Treelines - here and there this has been undertaken in the interior of British Columbia, the Outer Hebrides in Scotland.
